Process Ideas-Locating

Process Ideas-Locating

After spending the day in the library gathering information and ideas for my own work I found some interesting surfaces created  by using simple embroidery techniques.
Here are some examples.

Alchemy Of Cloth Brief-Locating

This module I will be undertaking two to three live briefs and after considering all the briefs I am going to start with this particular brief.

DEPARTMENT OF DESIGN
BA(HONS) TEXTILES IN PRACTICE
LOCATIONS UNIT
LEVEL 5 PROJECT – EMBROIDERY OPTION
“The alchemy of cloth” – fabric manipulation and transformation for fashion
design alchemy:“a seemingly magical process of transformation, creation, or combination”
Aims
To design a collection of material samples for an Autumn/Winter fashion collection. This
project is focused on the transformation of materials through the use of different
processes.
You are encouraged to adopt an experimental approach that mixes textile and non-textile approaches to the transformation of cloth. The aim is to focus on textured and constructed surfaces rather than surface pattern (although you may want to combine print with fabric manipulation techniques). Processes used could include: pleating, flocking, varnishing, resin coating, dyeing, weaving, stitching, plastic coating, heat pressing, smocking, seaming, folding, cutting, fraying etc. The list is endless – consider how you might approach this project brief imaginatively drawing on the skills you have gained on the programme so far. Be inventive and try to push the boundaries of what fashion fabrics can be rather then following works you have already seen.
Colour Palette
Your palette must be primarily monochrome – Blacks, Greys, Whites with the addition of
one or two bright colours to add a shot of contrast.
Types of Fabrics
Traditional Autumn/winter fabrics such as wools, suiting, knits, heavy silks, leather and
suede. The aim is to transform these everyday familiar fabrics into something extraordinary.
Outcomes for Assessment
6-10 samples for an Autumn/Winter collection with supporting research and development work.
The project is a ʻlive briefʼ that has been set by a recent Embroidery graduate who now manages the textiles and embroidery team for a high-end London fashion and print designer. At the end of the project, a student will be selected to undertake a placement with this fashion house, on the textiles team, over the summer for a three-month period. A series of inspirational images have been supplied as a starting point to offer you
examples of different approaches.

Tea Cosy's

Over the Christmas holidays I have been working for a local shop. I was asked to source materials that matched certain wallpapers and themes and then make 10 and 6 cup tea cosy's. I am now working with the shop on more ideas and designs for tea cosy's and other items. I was asked to work with them as they were having trouble getting patterns and sizes customers wanted, and was spotted at a local craft fair.
