Context sheet-Unit X

This context sheet shows my designs as well as giving an idea of how my ideas came about ,without seeing the whole of my work. I would like to think that people would recognise this a a large scale hanging. The dodecahedron shapes have a printed embroidery type outer, but I have designed this hanging to be much more interesting by putting nature inside. For example bark like is shown in the image below. The inside of the dodecahedron's would then show a peak to a garden a little but like we do in Manchester at the moment.I choose my design like this, so the outside pieces of the hanging would be in keeping with the new build.

Visualisation-Unit X

These are some visualizations of my work, this is a hanging installation and could be situated in a hallway, entrance etc.

Fiona Curran Talk

Image taken from a talk by Fiona Curran. The talk was Fiona explaining and  showing us images of her work, I especially like this piece as I like outdoor installations.

This time next year things are going to be different, wood, water-based wood stains and ratcheting straps.

3d Marquette's

After seeing the secret garden post on 'bloglovin' its made me think that my dome shaped hangings could have a little more to them than meets the eye. instead of just talking inspiration outside in gardens why not use it inside them as well.

Blogging Task

When I first started the project I did not have a clue where to start. I didn’t know where I had been that could inspire the work I was about to do. It seemed so broad I found it a little scary. When I decided I was going to choose Cornwall the Eden project, I had lots of imagery and thought that this could be a good starting point, as well as it being one of my favourite places, although it still took me a long time to get into it. I wasn’t sure what I would do, I wanted to do something that was different to what I usually do, but doing this by the skills I had already gained from my previous workshop.

I think I could have used my sketchbook better and documented more of the work that I have found in my research. I also think that from start off well on the group blog it became more difficult in the middle of the project, remembering to blog to both group and personal blog. I think I should have made myself write on blog every day and maybe this would have helped me within my other work such as my sketchbook.
If I was to do this project again I would get stuck into the project straight away, I think unfortunately thinking about the project didn’t make a good start. I would also think more about scale, not forget that this is for a building of great size. I would have looked into the hidden parts of gardens sooner as this is when I felt that I had some direction with my project.

I am pleased that I continued with embroidery and that I have been able to explore more with different feet, as well as teaming with mixed media. I like how I have showed my samples I think it shows a clear view of my work and also believe that it flows with imagery to show my journey of work. If I was to do the project again I would have done more sampling to further my ideas.
I was quite pleased with my final designs and thought that photo-shop helped me express my ideas.

Inspiration-Unit X

These photographs are of the inside of a discarded boiler, I am hoping to use these to further my ideas.

Inspiration

I needed to get some more inspiration, so spent the day looking for interesting surfaces. Instead of looking at plants, I started to look at the more hidden parts of nature in the gardens. The different types of mould and different colours it creates, as well as texture of walls and bark to further my research.

3d Sampling

So I have been sewing on top of tissue paper and acetate and I have realised that its sort of makes its own shapes when worked into. I also like the back of the sewing more than the front as its more textured but you can still see the tissue through the clear acetate. This got me thinking I could use my photography of plants mould(Photoshop) etc. This as imagery on the tissue paper, introducing colour as well.

Sampling

This is an image from the Eden project, thought this was really interesting. Mould on the soil.
By using paper and thread to sew similar shapes I have come up with these.

Sampling

By using dis-solvable fabric I have been tiring to create the feeling of garden plants like shown above. The image is what I have been taking inspiration from. I have used cotton thread and also invisible thread which I really liked(although its very time consuming). I thought that something like this draped on walls, like the images below would be an interesting idea, maybe projecting other images on top. Or even the other way around as on a large scale this would need a long period of time to produce.
